Curriculum Overview

Our mission is to educate future Health Assistants to provide quality healthcare with an emphasis on primary care to the medically underserved of nation and beyond.

As a team with the supervising physician, the HA provides diagnostic and therapeutic patient care, takes patient histories, performs physical examinations, orders diagnostic studies, and develops and carries out treatment plans. Using simulated trainers, students practice procedural skills such as intravenous catheter insertion, lumbar puncture, and point-of-care ultrasound. Our students have a unique opportunity to participate in a variety of volunteer experiences where medical services are provided to indigent, uninsured, and underserved populations.

HAs work in private physician offices, clinics, hospitals, health maintenance organizations, and neighborhood health centers, federal and state facilities, the Armed Services, industries, universities, medical schools, and many other settings.

The HA curriculum has been designed with the end in mind – to prepare the ideal graduates of tomorrow. As such, the curriculum is designed to be both horizontally and vertically integrated, i.e., as often as possible material taught in a given semester is aligned and considered across courses, while at the same time, conceptual bridges are built toward the material to be presented in future semesters.

Course Objectives

  • Produce manpower able to perform routine and special laboratory investigations on clinical and non-clinical samples independently.
  • Make graduate able to interpret the results and explain underlying principles in each investigation.
  • Make Candidate able to set up clinical laboratory in primary health centre and district level independently.
  • Make graduate able to assist in research works.
